Here are a few family-friendly upcoming activities you can put on the calendar.

PUMPKIN CARVING CONTEST

If you have or know some teenagers who have some carving skills, then tell them about this upcoming contest. This event is open to teens ages 11-17. Think they have what it takes? Come to the battle of the jack-o-lanterns at the Lake Oswego Teen Lounge on Friday, October 20 from 5-7 pm. Even if they aren’t a carving expert, this event will still be a blast. Lake Oswego Teen Lounge is located at 1500 Greentree Road.

VISIT THE SCARECROWS

Luscher Farm in Lake Oswego is a great place to take the family when it comes to Halloween. One thing this farm is known for though is their scarecrows. That’s right. From spooky to goofy to frumpy, there are scarecrows in all shapes and sizes. That’s not all there is to do! First, take some pictures. Then, find some pumpkins. Later, you can check out the chickens. You can even grab some organic produce from their store. Need directions? Luscher Farm is located at 125 Rosemont Road.

Crisp Air and Fresh Pumpkins

Best pumpkin patches in Lake Oswego

The Lake Oswego area really is unmatched for fall beauty. Once the leaves start to change a brisk walk in some cooler air will get those hearts pumping. The month of October, of course, is best known for this and of course for Halloween.

Time to go get the kids and set out in search of this year’s pumpkin. There are two farms nearby that will be a great stop for any pumpkin picking crew.

Lee Farms in Tualatin has all the amenities you can associate with a pumpkin patch visit. Hayrides, a corn maze, pony rides, and store filled with fresh fruits and baked goods.

Another favorite with less of the frills but plenty of Pumpkins is Fiala Farms. For over a century the Fiala family has offered fresh produce and a quiet family atmosphere for your outdoor pumpkin picking pleasure.
Lake Oswego has plenty of indoor beauty to sample at the Westlake Meadow Apartments. Tree-lined walkways and outdoor patios give our residents plenty of fresh air to sample while staying close to home. And it’s still close to all those pumpkins.

Summer DIY

When summer hits and the weather is great, the perfect thing to do is having a festive party! Looking for decorations that will fit the perfect theme for your parties can be difficult. But this summer DIY is perfect for being creative and adding the finishing touch to any party you throw this summer!

Supplies:

  • Various patterned or colored paper
  • Glue
  • Twine to hang
  • Scissors

How to Make:

Start by cutting two identical strips of the same paper. The wider the strip is the larger your decoration will be. Compress both pieces of paper widthways, making sure the folds are the same depth. Then press the resulting strips flat. Next, hold one piece and glue together the two sides. Once that is dry, begin fanning out the folds to make a semi-circle. Then repeat. Now, it’s time to glue the straight edges of both of the semi-circles together to create a complete circle. Lastly, glue or tape the twine to the back of each circle and it is all ready to hang!

This project is inexpensive and easy to create. Now decorating will always be fun!
